NaNoWriMo 2014: Day One

Today was the first day of the madness which is National Novel Writing Month – or NaNoWriMo for short. I didn’t start last night at midnight as I had hoped to, but I managed to type something out, though I’m not all that satisfied with the results.

I surpassed the daily goal of 1666, and exceeded even my personal goal of 2000 words by a mere 16 words. I call that a small victory. It’s easy to obsess over the quality of the work, but this isn’t about quality. It’s quantity that counts. I need 50k words by the end of the month, and seeing how it’s so easy to become obsessed with every word, having a challenge such as this is a great way to give yourself permission to just write.

I won’t say much more. I’m tired of writing and I don’t want to write any more than I have already written. I’ll make the occasional update, maybe, but I’ll probably be a bit on the exhausted side. This is going to be so much fun!

I’ll see you again on Monday. I have a book review for you to read. If you’re participating in the madness, good luck!
